Fitting process and adjustments

  • Most footwear is sent out at rough fit stage unless requested straight to finish when ordered, we recommend this fitting process, especially for footwear which is a first order for a patient.

  • When a second or subsequent shoe order is placed these can be made to completion if minimal adjustments are made to the style or the last fitting at the time of ordering.

  • If significant changes are requested on a repeat footwear order, then we recommend going through the fitting process to ensure optimal patient experience and comfort in the long term.

  • The shoes will come with a fitting sheet which should be completed to indicate any required adaptions or alterations for example additions to joint width to ease bunion pressure. Please try to use this sheet to demonstrate what your problem is with the shoes and leave it to the shoe technicians to work out how to resolve this problem for you.  They are the specialists in this area, not the clinicians, but they need detailed information, videos, and pictures from the clinician on the areas of concern.

  • If the shoes appear significantly incorrect in size start by rechecking your assessment measure to first assess if the patient’s presentation has significantly altered this is often the case when someone is suffering from lymphoedema or other fluid retaining conditions.

  • The shoes will then be adapted, and another fitting given or completed to the specification given at the time of ordering.

  • Generally, no more than 2 fittings should be required if good quality measures and assessment for the correct style of shoes were completed by the clinician.
