CASTING as a measure process

However, if a patient presents with a significant sagittal plane discrepancy for example a plantarflexion contracture that is fixed then a cast is recommended as a 2-D draft of the foot cannot accurately demonstrate this position to the manufacturing team.  Also, if your patient is presenting with a significant valgus deformity and midfoot collapse or varus deformity with prominent malleoli you may find that a cast or scan can capture the lumps, bulges and shape change in a better manner than a foot draft.

In casts taken of the patient’s foot should either be done on a standard Halo Medical 25mm heel height block or using a custom heel height block in which case you need to specify on the draft sheet what casting block you have used so the manufacturer team can replicate this in the manufacture process.
